Swerves and Surprises: Creating the Unexpected to Make Poetry Come Alive

Out of stock

Georgia Heard & Rebecca Kai Dotlich (3 sessions) 6:30 – 8:30 pm (est)
Wednesdays, October 26th, November 2nd & 9th

One of the goals of poetry is to make our readers see the world in a new way and the work of a poet is to avoid cliché and defy expectations. But how do we do that? In this workshop, we will explore surprise in poems – from odd word pairings to leaps in meaning, metaphor and music. We will read and discuss poems that offer unpredictability in both form and content. There will be out of class writing prompts that invite you to play and generate original work. We will also have time during each session for critiquing of new poems written specifically for this workshop.
