Monday, September 11th, Monday September 25th, & Wednesday, September 27th
This workshop is for the beginner or the seasoned poet and everyone in-between, whether you write for children or adults, we will explore the tradition and power of things to inspire poetry. We will study a variety of object poems from Valerie Worth’s iconic poems in Small Poems and Fourteen More, Charles Simic’s object poems, Pablo Neruda’s Odes to Common Things, the poems of Francis Ponge (who is called the poet of things), and many others. Starting with close observation, we’ll discover the poetic possibilities hiding inside even the most mundane objects. You’ll be writing in this workshop based on a variety of poetry prompts.
All objects yearn to express themselves, and they…wait…so that they may reveal the hidden depths of their being. –Francis Ponge
