Workshops for beginner and seasoned writers and everyone in between

The Poet’s Studio online workshops are open to anyone who wants to generate new writing and collaborate with other writers by sharing work and providing thoughtful feedback in a virtual workshop space. The workshops feature inspiring craft lessons and poetry prompts as well as positive feedback and encouragement. If you are new to poetry, this is a safe space where everybody, no matter what level, has something valuable to contribute. All classes are intended for writers who write for both adults as well as children (except where it specifically states otherwise) as we believe that learning the craft of poetry applies to all poetry no matter what age. See a list of current online workshops above. All workshops are offered via Zoom.

About the Poet’s Studio

When the pandemic first started, I yearned for a poetry community and missed teaching and talking to poets. So, thanks to Zoom, I offered my very first Poet’s Studio online workshop. I had no idea that a poetry community would form around these popular online workshops.

I’ve kept The Poet’s Studio online workshops going because it allows poets and writers to come together throughout the year and without the time and expense of traveling.

Poet and friend, Rebecca Kai Dotlich, will co-teach some of the workshops with me and some I’ll teach solo. Many but not all workshops have guest authors. All the writers who teach with me and who are guests have written and taught for decades and have extensive experience in the writing community.

I have been teaching and writing for over twenty years, and my goal is to create a sustainable poetry community. For each workshop, we spend many hours carefully planning new content and reading each poem closely submitted for critique. If you feel that you can’t afford the workshop fee, please reach out to me.

Workshop Structure

  • Most workshops are multiple online sessions (see workshop description for details).

  • You’ll receive verbal feedback from the instructor(s)

  • You’ll receive weekly prompts
