HAIKU COMICS: A Hands-On Poetry Comic Workshop with Grant Snider

Sale Price: $85.00 Original Price: $95.00

Date: Monday, October 5, 2026

Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm (ET) on Zoom

Early-Bird Registration: $85 through September 1
$95 beginning September 2

Grant Snider is back at The Poet’s Studio by popular demand for a new two-hour, hands-on workshop!

We all know Grant from his bestselling Poetry Comics, and now he has two new books forthcoming: The Year I Stopped Drawing: An Illustrated Novel-in-Verse, coming in November, and Poetry Comics: Flights of Imagination, coming in 2027.

This time, Grant will guide us in creating haiku comics. Poetry is all about paying attention to the world around us, and in both this workshop and his poetry comics, Grant does such a beautiful job of showing us how words and images can help us notice more deeply.

We’ve extended Grant’s time with us to two hours so there will be plenty of time to experiment, create, and learn from his process. During the final portion of the workshop, Grant will share his new illustrated novel-in-verse, The Year I Stopped Drawing.

You don’t need any drawing experience—or even poetry-writing experience—to join us. Just bring paper, something to draw with, and your curiosity.

Come ready to notice the world in new ways—and turn those observations into haiku comics of your own.

About the Hosts

Grant Snider began writing and drawing as a kid, creating pictures, poems, and stories from his imagination—often in collaboration with his twin brother, Gavin. His favorite books of poetry were Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein and Sing a Song of Popcorn: Every Child’s Book of Poems.

In college Grant began drawing comics for the student newspaper at the University of Kansas. After college he started a weekly online comic strip, Incidental Comics, online. Soon it gained a worldwide audience. Incidental Comics has been featured in the Best American Comics anthology and collected in the books The Shape of Ideas, I Will Judge You By Your Bookshelf, The Art of Living, and Thinking About Thinking.

His book Poetry Comics was named a 2025 ALA Notable Book, a Kirkus Best Book of 2024, a 2025 NEA Read Across America selection, and a USA Today Bestseller.

Grant has two new books on the way. The Year I Stopped Drawing: An Illustrated Novel-in-Verse, coming in November, is a middle-grade story about losing your creative voice—and finding it again. His second poetry-comics collection, Poetry Comics: Flights of Imagination, will be published in 2027.

Grant lives with his wife and kids in Wichita, Kansas, where he works a day job as an orthodontist. His hobbies include cooking breakfast, reading, running, drawing, and redrawing.
